First, see here: (PSN - Final Fantasy Tactics) ...and here: (PSN - Final Fantasy Tactics - War of the Lions)

I don't have a Sony system, but I do own an iPhone. From the App Store, I have downloaded and am playing FFT-WotL. From what I can tell, it's the same as the original, with a few tweaks to work on a touch-based device. There isn't two versions within the Apple App Store, so I'm curious about the difference between the two on PSN. Can someone clarify?

War of the Lions is basically the PSP version/remake, released 2007. It features a number of improvements and new elements (which are described on Wiki page in more detail - watch out for story spoilers though!) over its predecessor. Notable changes include increased difficulty level (reflecting the difficulty of original 1997 Japanese version), as well as additional battles, characters from later FF games and completely new translation. The iPhone version is a port from PSP, with only slight changes.

To be sure, the non-WotL version is the original that was released on the PSX? Were there any changes made to that version (even slight ones?) – RLH Feb 7 at 13:11
non-WotL is the original 1997/1998 release on PSX, and the changes I mentioned in my answer were all introduced in PSP version (WotL). From my perspective WotL additions are significant - though some problems with the original, like slowdowns, were seemingly not fixed in WotL. – acalypso Feb 7 at 13:16
Just found the iPhone version of WotL does NOT come with multiplayer functionality (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…) - which worked for PSP in ad hoc mode only anyway. – acalypso Feb 7 at 13:23

Another note on differences, the items available only via multiplayer challenges in the PSP version are available in the iPhone version. The Trapper's Den shop starts giving them away late in the game. I'm not sure if it's unlocked by story progress or by level. – REDace0 Feb 7 at 17:30
