I am in the iPhone 4 and my friend is on the iPod 3. We both have the full pack but it won't let me join their server. It won't let them join mine either.

What is causing this, and how can we get around it?

It seems this is a dupe of either this or this, or both. –  MBraedley Mar 11 '13 at 19:20

What kind of wifi network is it? Home, public, school, work…? –  SevenSidedDie Mar 11 '13 at 19:58

First of all, make sure you and your friends have the same version number, for example, v0.6.

Then make sure both devices are connected to the same Local Area Network, like your home wi-fi. It won't work over the Internet.

Thirdly, make sure "server visibility" is on. This is the default setting, just make sure you didn't accidentally change it.

Do you both have the same Minecraft update and on the same WiFi network? It will not work online and you must have the same game version and the same WiFi network to play multiplayer.

Further, your wireless router has to not block peer connections. Some do that by default. –  SevenSidedDie Mar 11 '13 at 0:29
