Arqade is a question and answer site for passionate videogamers on all platforms. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Like many others stores, Steam is offering significant discounts annually during Christmas. On what days of the year does this sale usually take place? I'm looking for answers such as "December 25-29", not something specific to any year.

Of course information about future sales is speculative in nature, I'm mainly hoping that people remember when these sales took place in previous years and will base their answer on that.

If you hadn't asked it not to be specific to this year, the answer would be "now" – jmfsg Dec 20 '10 at 19:20

Since no other answer was complete, here's a community-wiki summary of past sales:

  • Steam's 2008 Holiday Sale took place between December 26th and January 2nd (source)
  • Steam's 2009 Holiday Sale took place between December 23rd and January 3rd (source)
  • Steam's 2010 Holiday Sale took place between December 20th and January 2nd (source)
  • Steam's 2011 Holiday Sale took place between December 20th and January 1st (source)

So, if they hold it in future years, we could anticipate that it would occur during the last couple weeks of December, and spill a little into January.

Yup, started earlier today. Likely as soon as the Treasure Hunt ended at 11am PST. – user2974 Dec 20 '10 at 23:38
Wow. All 5 Prince of Persia games for less than $20. That's like - less than 20c per hour of gameplay. Sands of Time is $2.49 - I think that's about one cent for every major game critic who's named it the best game of all time... – MGOwen Dec 21 '10 at 1:12
