I'm stuck on a planet with no wood trees and no resources that are easy to exploit, and I want to get off of it as quickly as possible. What do I need to do to get my spaceship enough fuel to go to another planet?

All you need to travel to another world is coal. You can find it in dirt and rock fairly easily on the surface, or with a little digging. Teleport up to your ship, head for your fuel tank towards the front of the ship, and put some coal in your fuel tank.

Yes, your interstellar spaceship runs off of basic fossil fuels.

Wood no longer acts as a fuel source for your spaceship, but you can now smelt 10 Unrefined Wood into a piece of coal, as of the Frustrated Koala patch

Coal no longer acts as fuel for a spaceship. As of the Upbeat Giraffe patch:

radioactive ores or the new Liquid Erchius Fuel that now appears in Moon biomes

Are what's used to fuel your spaceship.

Yes, I did ask this question just to answer it, because the game doesn't bother to explain this to you if you're stuck on a planet without any wood. – Zibbobz Dec 5 '13 at 13:58
that is fine and even encouraged – ratchet freak Dec 5 '13 at 14:29
@ratchetfreak I know, just thought I'd hedge off questions about it first. ;) – Zibbobz Dec 5 '13 at 14:49
In the ships I've seen (Hylotl and Human) the fuel container has been on the same side of the door as the cockpit. The station before the door is Tech/3D-Printer – VanBuzzKill Dec 5 '13 at 15:40
I use wood, as it's MUCH easier to come by than coal. – user63186 Dec 5 '13 at 23:18
