Is there someplace that I might be able to find a list of FPS games with multiplayer gameplay similar to the Battle Field series that also supports bots (like single player mode in BF2, but multi-player). Some friends and I would like to be able to play together (on the same team) versus the computer. I recommended the Unreal Tournament games, but those a bit more frenetic than my friends enjoy.

Are you looking for games on console or PC? – DarkShiva Jan 30 '11 at 2:24
Which game modes have you tried in Unreal Tournament? – Zoot Jan 30 '11 at 3:24
@DarkShiva - PC specifically. @Zoot - all of them. CTF, Onslaught, Team DM, etc. – Xantec Jan 30 '11 at 3:28

What you're looking for is called cooperative gameplay.

There is a very big list of co-op games on Wikipedia. You can sort it by genre and platform, among other criteria. There is also a list of co-op games specifically for the Xbox 360.

Here are some co-op games I personally know about:

  • I've played Battlefield 2 co-op, like you mentioned.
  • You can also have bots join the enemy team in Counter-Strike: Source.
  • The Worms games are great to play with a teammate.
  • Unreal Tournament 3 supports co-op too.

+1 That ia an impressive list on Wikipedia. – Xantec Jan 30 '11 at 3:35

Digital Paint: Paintball 2 is a free (GPL) online multiplayer FPS. You can also play it on a LAN and it suppourts bots so you and your friends could play on one team and add bots on the other team.
If you like vintage gaming (i.e. bad graphics by today's standards) I would also recommend Doom, which is also free (GPL) so you don't break the bank. Doom can be played deathmatch over a LAN or you and other players can play the same mission over a LAN.

Note: these are all PC games, because I don't do much gaming on a console, but when I was at a friend's house playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on his XBox 360, we did cooperative gameplay on some missions, so I would assume that CoD: Black Ops supports that as well.
