Arqade is a question and answer site for passionate videogamers on all platforms. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am planning to buy WoL and HotS from Amazon. As you know, Starcraft 2 is only playable online, which requires redemption code.

The product listings don't have any information about what is included, so I contacted Amazon support. One support guy told me, this product doesn't have redemption codes.

If I understood correct, without code it's useless right? I wonder if he tell me wrong or, it really haven't redeem code.

My second problem is, let's say the purchase includes redeem codes. But shipping the physical copies to my country usually requires 2 weeks. Will Amazon give me the codes straight away? As I understood those redeem codes are included inside box, so can they open the box and send me the redemption code? Because I don't want to wait 2 weeks.

This is amazon support guy's email:

This is Nicolene from Amazon. I hope this email finds you well. According to the information on the product details page I'm not finding anything indicating that this game comes with redemption codes.

We don't really have the expertise to be able to confirm one way or the other what Amazon can or can't do. We're about playing games. That said, selling a product without a way to use it is usually grounds for return. If you really want to be safe, buy it straight from Blizzard. –  Frank Mar 1 at 14:51

Blizzard price is double times expensive. I think if there is anybody who purchased from Amazon, he can help me. –  Gerelt Od Mar 1 at 14:52

This question appears to be off-topic because it is about Amazon's specific policies and support, not gaming. –  Frank Mar 1 at 14:54

Sorry, Gerelt. Personal experiences, while they work as answers, should be limited to gaming itself, not what Amazon does or doesn't do for customer support. –  Frank Mar 1 at 14:54

This answer is answerable with anyone who has ever purchased from Amazon or downloaded from Blizzard/Ubi etc. The OP is not asking for shopping advice, game recs etc. The OP only wants to know if the two week period can be bypassed. –  ヴァイシャリ Mar 1 at 15:09

These games will include a CD Key inside of the packaging. Amazon's policies will restrict them from opening the packaging and providing the key to you.

I bought both from Amazon (collector's editions) when they came out, and that's how I got them.

So you received your code after box arrived your home? –  Gerelt Od Mar 1 at 14:56

Correct, it's printed as a key on the CD slip. –  Thebluefish Mar 1 at 14:57

Ty for answer, even it was off-topic. Guess i need wait 2 weeks then. I don't think Amazon will open box and give me redeem code instantly. –  Gerelt Od Mar 1 at 14:58

2 weeks until murderville is an oh-so worthwhile wait time >:] –  Thebluefish Mar 1 at 15:22

You are purchasing the box from Amazon. Not the download. The box will have keys associated with your purchase. When you insert the media in your drive, it will prompt you for the key. The key is usually found on the box.

Redeem codes are applied to gifts. When someone gifts something to you, you get a redeem code.

When you purchase a digital download version from Blizzard, you receive a code. This is also a kind of redeem code.

As to your last question, this is not possible.

Let's say you purchased from Amazon, had it delivered it to someone in the UK/US/EU. The physical media will reach them. But how will you install it on your own machine?

Keep in mind Media requires a Key. Download requires a code.

I currently playing Starcraft starter edition. It contains full game data. Only account is starter edition bound, so i can't access all in game features. So I don't think DVD needed here. Since I already installed it. So if I use that cd-key from box, can i play online with full features? also as you said redeem codes applied gifts, if I buy it from Amazon as gift, they give code? –  Gerelt Od Mar 1 at 15:10

No it will not work. You installed a free edition. It expects a redeem code. The CD key will not work. Try it if you want. Post results here. :-) –  ヴァイシャリ Mar 1 at 15:16

I see, i thought licences are bound to accounts. So it's bound to games itself? So everyone who sitting on my computer can play full game with their account? –  Gerelt Od Mar 1 at 15:52

If they are logged in to your Battle.Net account then yes. And my brother play my game. He is 5 years old. Boss fight boss, big sister, you take over. I can ot defeat them. –  ヴァイシャリ Mar 1 at 16:14
