Just installed Cryostasis from GamersGate. I tried playing it but I can barely move. I have set everything at low or off, including Physx. I have turned off and on hardware acceleration (is it better on?) and nothing. I once tried to set the vertex shader to 2.0 but the game would just start with a black screen (had to manually change the config file to get it starting).

I have a more than decent system for the game. I bought it a year after it came out.

I have 4 Gb of ram, a 9600GT M, Intel Cored 2 Duo with 2.13GHz and Windows 7 64. This should easily run the game even at higher settings. I updated the graphics driver.

Has anyone gone through this? Thank you

Edit, some clarifications:

When I say that I can't walk I mean the camera turns very hard, it is lagging, skipping frames. I don't know how to see my fps count (should I install fraps?).

I recently had the idea to turn the resolution down to 800x600. In this mode the game works fine even with higher settings. Still I would like to know what's going on.

How many running processes do you have running normally? Start your task manager and look at running processes. –  Sorean Aug 15 '11 at 18:41

Currently 54 of which firefox, winamp and steam are "my own". –  Iustin Aug 15 '11 at 19:07

Try closing everything that you don't essentially need (ie, firefox, winamp) and see if it goes any better. Sometimes Firefox has memory leaks. Also, try pausing your anitvirus and see if that helps. What FPS are you getting? –  rlb.usa Aug 15 '11 at 19:11

It does sound like it should be able to handle it without a problem. As rib.usa mentioned, try to close everything you don't need to see if there is any improvement. Do you also have a second monitor? Check to see if your CPU is being put into full use when the game is running. Checking to see what process is using a lot of RAM or CPU while you are running the game will let you know what could be causing the game to run slow. –  Sorean Aug 15 '11 at 19:17

Does the same occur with other games? Or just this game? Hardware acceleration is usually better on. At what resolution do you intend to play the game? –  Tom Wijsman Aug 16 '11 at 10:10
