Arqade is a question and answer site for passionate videogamers on all platforms. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've played Guitar Hero at a party (on a playstation dedicated to playing, with dedicated instruments), and liked the experience. (Although I never liked computer games before.)

So, I'd like to find a similar game for my GNU/linux system. It should:

  • be controlled with the normal keyboard/mouse,
  • desirably, be free software (= open source), so that all people around the world can hack it,
  • allow adapting well-known popular music compositions for playing in it. (I'd like to find a collection of adapted songs that would include more songs that I like.)

So, what are the analogues of "Guitar Hero" for GNU/Linux that are there?

Sorry then. I thought I'll improve the site by posting the question I've been "researching" and the answers if I find them. – imz -- Ivan Zakharyaschev Oct 15 '11 at 2:06

In Wikipedia, they mention:

  • "Frets on Fire", a free software/open source clone of "Guitar Hero" for Microsoft Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and Mac OS X.

    • "Frets on Fire X", an open source clone of "Guitar Hero World Tour" (originally developed to address the gameplay changes introduced in "Rock Band") for Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

(And I wonder whether there are more similar free games for GNU/Linux...)
