Is it possible to change the online ID associated with my PSN account? If it's possible, how do I go about changing it?

No, it's only possible to change your display name in Japan. Otherwise, you'll have to make a new PSN account. If you do, you can keep the same email address, by changing it before making the new account, but there's no way to keep your trophies or online stats.

Beat me to it. Support link if you want to add it in: us.playstation.com/support/answer/index.htm?a_id=254 –  Doozer Blake Nov 16 '11 at 21:40

Not keeping trophies and stats is enough reason not to do it, but for completeness' sake, what about purchases in the PSN store? –  Bart van Heukelom Nov 17 '11 at 16:03

@BartvanHeukelom: You couldn't keep PlayStation Plus, and you couldn't redownload anything, but I can't find any info on whether or not already installed content will remain or get deactivated. I would think that it would still work, but I don't know about some things like multiplayer maps and PSN games. –  Ullallulloo Nov 17 '11 at 16:46

And I also assume that you'd lose your multiplayer serials (online pass, passport, whatever they're called) and e.g. a link to your Steam account. –  Bart van Heukelom Nov 18 '11 at 14:42
