I can't find any help with Google on how to install custom firmware on a PSP 3001 with v4.21 firmware. I'd prefer to do it without the Pandora battery, but if that's the only way then can you please describe how to do it in a way that's safe for this version?

Welcome to GamingSE, pspguy! Unfortunately questions on modding/hacking are off-topic here, per our FAQ. – Fluttershy Feb 1 '12 at 16:26
This question is likely to get closed because it is off-topic. That being said, just doing some quick searching, it appears as though trying to change your PSP's firmware directly has a high likelihood of bricking your device. Look into Devhook for PSP. It is a homebrew program that will allow you to run different firmware from your main OS rather than trying to replace it. If you still choose to proceed with attempts at replacing your OS you do so at your own risk. A three pound $200 paper weight doesn't sound nice to me. – Adanion Feb 1 '12 at 16:32

um, the FAQ doesn't actually say anything about modding consoles. :P – Ullallulloo Feb 1 '12 at 16:40

Interestingly enough, Ullallulloo is correct. There is a meta question and answer that says we allow mod questions - I could have sworn they were not allowed. Mea culpa. – Jason Berkan Feb 1 '12 at 17:12

In general, our policy has been to allow questions that may involve breaking TOS, and only close if there are clear issues of legality. – sjohnston Feb 1 '12 at 19:03
