Heroic instances. It can also mean hard core.

why ask this question if you know the answer? – Durathor Aug 14 '10 at 20:30
The site etiquette doesn't discourage self answering questions @Craig, but we do appreciate it when you give others the time to try your own questions, rather than instantly answering them yourself – Ivo Flipse Aug 14 '10 at 20:58
The bigger question is why downvote a correct answer? I think this answer could be better, like explaining that some people associate "HC" with "Hard Core" but that's not the real meaning since there's nothing hard core about heroic instances. And maybe mention other common abbreviations of heroic (like just "H" followed by instance name). Or briefly explain what a heroic instance is for complete newbies. But this answer is correct and helpful for someone looking for the definition, and I think downvoting is inappropriate. – indiv Aug 14 '10 at 21:31

The average World of Warcraft player doesn't actually speak in words, just a collection of acronyms. – Chris S Aug 15 '10 at 18:33
