I'm from the Philippines, and one of the problems I have is finding people to play with. There are plenty of gamers here, the problem is that they're all in LAN centers and internet cafes and most of these use pirated copies of retail games so they're limited only to local network play.

Lately, I've been playing CoD4, the first Modern Warfare, multiplayer, and the servers that I play on get me a ping of at least 250 on a good day.

I've used Gametracker to locate servers that are near my location and I've turned up a bunch in Japan and Korea (I get better ping from those servers), but I have no way of connecting to them.

My question is, in general, when playing online games, is there a way to locate servers that are near you so that you're not constantly fighting lag?

What specific games are you speaking of? Most games now days have a country filter, ping filter, etc. What connection speeds are you getting from your ISP? [Up & down] – Zero Stack Mar 15 '12 at 19:51
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I don't see any country filters in it, though, and no way to add servers via IP address. I get connection speeds of 1 Mbps down (varies throughout the day), 512 kbps up from my ISP. – cornjuliox Mar 16 '12 at 20:19
