How did Riot games Originate? How did they turn such a small game into one of the largest in the world ?

They originated from DOTA from warcraft. They wanted to allow more people to view the game on how they wanted it to be designed as DOTA is player made

@GnomeSlice Guinsoo, one of the leading developers, was the former designer of DotA. One of the other big names, Pendragon, ran the DotA community forums for a long time. – Decency Mar 26 '12 at 6:49
