I just want to sell the items quickly and don't want to spend a lot of time analyzing prices, etc. I am leveling not a level 60 character.

In diablo iii?

Say vendor value the item for 500 gc

How much should I sell the item for and how much the buyout shall be?

I usually add 0 and 00 to the end of price.

So 5000 gc and 50000 buy out.

What do you use?

I search for similar items and try to find a mix between the median and average. With your method you could end up losing a lot of money. Vendor prices don't say much at all and you could sell an amulet that would be worth 2 millions for 50000.

@JimThio You ain't gonna find some method which does not involve researching the AH, because prices are set by demand and supply. The npc vendor value has nothing to do with it. There are items with 1,200 npc sell value which are not worth more than 1,200 and there are items with 1200 npc sell value which are worth 10,000,000. What you can do is to learn what attributes are popular and constitute value. E.g. a class main attribute (str/int/dex) coupled with vit, resist all, magic find, dps, atk speed are all sought attributes which make items valuable if they have high values. – Alderath Jun 5 '12 at 9:43
