I look through some player profiles on this forum and just flabbergasted by where they find these items whilst playing. I understand how MF% gear works and drop rates but is there a better place to kill elites to get a those level 63 items or to get a higher drop rate? Act 1, 2, 3, 4 Inferno?

Act 3 and 4 and Whimsyshire in Inferno are published as having the highest drop rates. – Stephen Jul 18 '12 at 0:38
the AH is also a good place to get these 'trophy' items you can often find really nice pieces for super cheap as some people just have no clue about prices – spartacus Jul 18 '12 at 1:31
In the end it is just time invested into this game. Please look at the total hours played for the characters with the good items. Subtract about 20 hours for leveling to level 60. – ayckoster Jul 18 '12 at 1:50
how much hours are you thinking they have invested when the game has only been out two months? I am between 100-200 hours and have no items which are comparable – Jhara Jul 18 '12 at 2:06
@Jhara you have to realize the forums you linked to is a unique situation. Those people have a method of spending money to buy into games using a fake currency and its entirely possible that person had a hoard of that stashed up and spent it all on diablo 3. Either way this isn't a real question since we can't answer it. – spartacus Jul 18 '12 at 3:14

Items

The drop rates for high-end items (items level 61-63) have been increased for Acts III and IV of Hell difficulty and Acts I – IV of Inferno difficulty: The new approximate drop rates are as follows:

Hell – Act III and Act IV

  • iLvl 61: 13.9%, up from 9%
  • iLvl 62: 3.45%, up from 1.9%
  • iLvl 63: 0% (no change)

Inferno – Act I

  • iLvl 61: 23.9%, up from 17.7%
  • iLvl 62: 12.6%, up from 7.9%
  • iLvl 63: 4.8%, up from 2.0%

Inferno – Act II

  • iLvl 61: 23.3%, up from 18.6%
  • iLvl 62: 18.6%, up from 12.4%
  • iLvl 63: 9.3%, up from 4.1%

Inferno – Act III and Act IV

  • iLvl 61: 27.1%, up from 24.1%
  • iLvl 62: 21.7%, up from 16.1%
  • iLvl 63: 16.3%, up from 8.0%

So as you can see it is much better to farm in act 3 and 4 if you want to have as much chance as possible at getting ilvl63.

Thanks for the answer, certainly helps. Must just mean I am unlucky becauase all level 62-63 items i seem to get have junk stats or are not complementary. I am almost at 200 hours and still am yet to find an item worth over 1m gold on the AH – Jhara Jul 19 '12 at 0:46
