What have you tried? – Robotnik Sep 2 '12 at 5:21
Could you post your operating system and the target version of Minecraft? It'd also be nice to know if you intend to use a LAN game or an internet game. – smoth190 Sep 4 '12 at 6:51

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. For help clarifying this question so that it can be reopened, see the FAQ.

You need to host a server. If you're both on the same LAN, just load up the Survival Island map and use 1.3's new Open to LAN feature. To do this, pause the game, and click the Open to LAN button. Configure the settings to what you see fit, then click Start LAN World. Your friend should now be able to see the server in their server list.

If you're not both on the same LAN, then you'll have to host an internet game. This is a little more complicated, and rather than explain the long and router-dependent and OS-dependent process, I'll give you the link to the Minecraft Wiki page. Be sure to read everything before coming and asking for help. You will have problems, everyone does. Hosting an internet game is not an easy process.

Once you've got the internet game setup, you have to copy the Survival Island map from your Minecraft folder. To find your Minecraft folder, (Windows only) press the Window's key and R at the same time to open the Run window. In it, type %appdata% and hit enter. In the explorer that comes up, click .minecraft. Then, click saves, and copy the folder for the Survival Island map. Now, go into the server folder (you should already know where it is, because that's where your server .jar is) and paste it in. In the server.properties file, enter the folder name of the folder you just pasted in next to level-name. When you load up the world, it should be on the Survival Island map.

DISCLAIMER: I don't know if this is still true in the current version of Minecraft, but the spawns might be a little messed up.

Hopefully this answers your question. Since I have no idea what OS you have or what version of Minecraft your using, this might not be exactly correct for you. Sorry :(
