So I know its going to be super crazy during the first several weeks after MoP goes live. Prices for mats and other consumables will be doubled. I have several lvl 85 characters with various maxed out professions:

  • Warlock (Enchanting, Engineering),
  • Priest (Alchemy, Inscription),
  • Mage (Skinning, Herbalism),
  • Druid (Blacksmithing, Jewel-crafting).

At this point I am not sure which character to level up first. My goal is to maximize profits during level up. I feel like Warlock's enchanting could give me a lot of mats for sell. Basically, you get at least one item every quest or two.

But I also have my farming Mage. I can relatively easy get tons of herbs and skin for sale as well.

So what are your thoughts about it?

I would suggest editing the question so that it is a more general oriented towards what professions are good at making money when a new expansion is released. – Blem Sep 6 '12 at 10:00
This question requires a book to answer, and no objective answer is available due to differences in servers and limits on enjoyability of activities. Also - The "most profitable" activity may not be in MoP content at all, as people level new monks through the old content. – David B Sep 6 '12 at 14:13

My thoughts on this are that this particular question is highly speculative. Nobody knows how the economics of each individual realm will work out during the first weeks of Mists of Pandaria, and there is the possibility of outside intervention in terms of Blizzard hot fixing changes into the game.

The amount of money that you make during the launch of a new expansion is very much going to be determined by the following factors:

  • How busy your realm is/the state of the market on your realm
  • How much time you put into playing

The new glyph system means that a lot of scribes will be either levelling up or attempting to mass produce items to sell, this means you could take advantage of this by either crafting glyphs or providing the materials to allow others to craft glyphs.

You're right in that enchanting will provide a steady stream of lower level materials during the levelling process, and these will initially be very valuable with prices starting to drop off after the first month or so of raiding (ie: when demand begins to drop).

Gathering professions always get a decent amount of market activity immediately after an expansion is released, as people change main characters and level up new professions on their alternate characters, or while people change their professions to min-max. Materials gained from both Skinning and Herbalism will be beneficial to Leatherworkers, Alchemists, Scribes and the like.

I am marshaling every ounce of self-control I own to not change "inscribers" to "Scribes". :P – Rilgon Arcsinh Sep 6 '12 at 9:52

I have no idea what you're talking about, I would never make such an obvious mistake! :p~ – kalina Sep 6 '12 at 10:03
The proper term is "scribblers". Think about it - one glyph every 1.5 seconds... – David B Sep 6 '12 at 14:21
