I have never played civilization 5 before but the trailers, game play trailers and let's plays make it seem awesome. Great graphics, game play and back story. One thing I could not make out is how long one game would take. I was considering going to a LAN café and playing it with friends.

Is this a good idea? Does the average game take less than 4 hours?

For what it worth Civ 5 IMO would not make a good lan cafe game. It takes too long to complete it. – Ender Sep 23 '12 at 11:49
This question is very close to being closed, I've edited it to focus only on the length of a multiplayer game. That is something that can be answered here. The answer is rather complicated as you can change a lot of settings that affect game length, but in general it is a pretty long game. – Mad Scientist Sep 23 '12 at 12:01

First of all, yes civilization 5 is a fun game to play multiplayer. There is a large community of gamers who play the game multiplayer.

A game of civilization multiplayer can take from half an hour up to as much as eight hours. It depends a lot on the skill of the players involved, and the game mode/world type chosen.

In general games that have players spread out over continents tend to take longer, while games on a Pangaea map take shorter. Also small maps are quicker to play than large maps.

So if you want to start playing multiplayer on a small Pangaea map.

What settings would you recommend for a 4 hour session? Also, should I play gods and kings or vanilla? – General Stubbs Sep 23 '12 at 22:39
