I wanted to use an Xbox controller to play PC games, so I ordered this one off Ebay. I know that I will need to buy a custom receiver for my PC, but will I be able to charge my controller that I bought via an USB cable?

This is kind of a bit localized - there's no telling what you can or can't do with a particular device when we have no idea if the device is a knock off/imitation or what have you. In the general sense, the official "Play and Charge" kit comes with rechargeable battery and a USB cable that charges the official battery. By default, the wireless controller does not come with a play and charge kit, though. – agent86 Oct 3 '12 at 18:54
If you read the package details, it says nothing about anything other than the standard wireless controller. – leety Oct 3 '12 at 18:57
Yes, but it doesn't explicitly state that it is delivered without the adapter and the charger. But as it turns out, that's the standard, so I just bought those as well. – Yannbane Oct 3 '12 at 21:27

As long as you have a rechargeable controller kit (the battery pack and cord), you will be able to charge it via your PC or Xbox.

Other than that, like you said, you need the receiver for the PC.

P.S. Sometimes while charging my controller via PC, it will turn my Xbox on. I'm sure there is a work around.

I don't have an Xbox, so your last point wont be a problem. – Yannbane Oct 3 '12 at 21:27

I eschewed the specialized kit and got regular rechargeable NiMh AA batteries. The advantage of this is that they will work with any device which requires AA batteries.

Hm, I should've done so myself. – Yannbane Oct 3 '12 at 21:26
