Unable to login “duplicate login”

I lost internet connection while playing. Now when I attempt to log in, I get the error "duplicate login" I've tried restarting Torchlight and resetting my internet connection, but it still doesn't work.

Is there a way to fix this, or do I need to wait for a server-side timeout or something?

This is a known issue for many users. The only current solution is to wait it out till the servers times out your login. Till then you just have to play offline I guess. There is a strong push in the runicgames support forums to fix this issue.
