If I have a level 50 character and I continue to play missions what happens to the XP earned? When Gearbox raise the cap to 60 will I gain a couple of levels, or will I have wasted a bunch of valuable mission XP and only have grinding enemies left to level up.

In other words, should I leave all the DLC for any level 50 characters until after they raise the level cap?

Pretty sure it goes nowhere, but if it's anything like the last game (or Borderlands 2 proper) there'll be no need for grinding if you just play all the new missions in any given playthrough/DLC anyway. – Ben Brocka Oct 16 '12 at 19:40
@BenBrocka - I don't know, but in BL1 it took me all 4 DLCs plus a couple of boss grinds to get from 50 to 60. If the XP is just lost I'll play the DLC with sub-50 characters for now. – Keith Oct 16 '12 at 19:48

@OrigamiRobot - I disagree: I think we can reasonably expect a raise to level 60 with one of the DLC packs. It seems unlikely that Gearbox would nerf the post-game by not doing that and it would be consistent with BL1. We also have lots of ways of knowing, with PC gamers already hacking game files and Gearbox having been quite open about this in the past. I'm not asking about HL3 here, I'm asking about how DLC released today works. – Keith Oct 16 '12 at 21:57
So I guess the question is does Captain Scarlett raise the level cap? If not, then I'm going to have to agree with @OrigamiRobot. It will not be definitively answerable until such a time that the cap is raised. – MBraedley Oct 16 '12 at 22:08

No. The Borderlands 2 DLC Captain Scarlett does not raise the level cap and keeps it at 50.

The following is taken from a GameFaq Forum:

Down in the Gearbox Forums, one of Gearbox's PR guys came into a topic and said that for that trailer they had 52 points simply to access all the skills for the video.

So no level cap increase.

This response came from the fact that, in a video, Adam had a character with 52 skill points, meaning that the level required to attain that level was 56. However, he pointed out that he just edited the character to show the different aspects of the new character.

I can only say that there MIGHT be a level cap increase. But Captain Scarlett definitely does not introduce a new level cap.

Cheers, I saw that there was no level cap increase, the question is more about the game handles it when the inevitable level cap raises. I don't even know how BL1 did it (I bought the GoTY edition with all DLC). – Keith Oct 18 '12 at 23:22
