Do you get a bill of sale when you buy a horse in Skyrim when using the Horses for Followers mod? Because I don't, and I read it is necessary to make your follower ride his or her horse.

What mod are you using? It could have a major impact on the answer. – ChargingPun Dec 6 '12 at 20:11

It's quite possible that the mod adds the bill of sale, but you don't get one in the vanilla game. – Alice Rees Dec 6 '12 at 20:32

You will want to list the mod you are talking about as followers riding horses is just not possible in base Skyrim. Your question is 100% based on the mod. – James Dec 6 '12 at 21:25
Edited the post to add a link to the only mod that includes a "bill of sale", on the assumption that the OP has this installed. – SevenSidedDie Dec 7 '12 at 0:12
Just a quick check: you do have Horses for Followers installed, right? And you bought the horse after installing the mod? – SevenSidedDie Dec 7 '12 at 0:12
