Baldur's Gate (often called BG) is a Role-Playing Game developed by BioWare, released in 1998 by Interplay Entertainment

The game uses a modified version of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition rules, taking place in the Forgotten Realms, a high fantasy campaign setting.

The game makes use of Bioware's Infinity Engine to create an isometric user interface, and the same engine was later used for games such as the Icewind Dale series, and its own expansion, Tales of the Sword Coast.
