Ness can suffer from an ailment called Homesick by not talking to his mother for long periods of time. When he has this status condition he can sometimes miss turns in battle. Calling your mother will prevent Ness from becoming homesick and it will also cure the homesick ailment! Silly moms.

This is a status condition called Mushroomized that comes from mushroom type enemies. It's very similar to "confusion" in most other games where it can cause the infected player to unwantedly attack allies. You should be able to remove the effect by visiting the hospital. IIRC there is a man in the lobby that you can talk to who will remove the effect. ...

It appears that you have been "Mushroomized". Mushroomization is a status condition caused by mushroom enemies such as the Ramblin' Evil Mushroom. In the overworld, the mushrooms cause the controls to scramble positions while walking around and it also makes a mushroom appear on the head of whoever is inflicted. While in-battle, it may cause a character ...

As you know, Ness made his debut in the game EarthBound for the SNES. Now one of the PSI abilities that he, as well as another player named Poo, can learn is called PSI Teleport. As the name suggests, this PSI power gives you the ability to warp to places you've already visited. There are two versions of this power-up, PSI Teleport α (you warp by running in ...

The photographer in Earthbound is triggered when you step into certain areas for the first time. I believe there's an actual trigger for entering/standing in a particular location or on certain game events (ie, killing a boss monster or talking to a person) that causes him to appear. This means that your encounters with him are essentially scripted - you ...

There's some fan theories about it's purpose/creation but nothing is ever explicitly said about it's origins, and there aren't many hints regarding it that I ever noticed either. It was dug up under Liar X Aggerate's house and caused several relevant events over the course of Earthbound (Mother 2) but no origins are really stated. There might be minor ...

Yes, the very same Tomato (the owner of EarthBound Central and the fan translator of MOTHER 3 into English) has an extensive comparison site specifically for this question: http://earthboundcentral.com/m2eb/ There's probably more than you ever wanted to know about the differences between these two games. :)

If you want to visit all of the photo spots ("fuzzy pickles!"), you must buy this luxurious villa. The trigger point is about in front of the couch. Otherwise, there's no mechanical point in buying this house. You'd do better to only bite the bullet once you're ready to start looking at your album. Nudge nudge, wink wink. At that point, you should have ...

There are several options for restoring your PP in Earthbound. Sleeping will always restore you PP. This is typically done at hotels. Touching a magic butterfly will restore 20pp to every character. These are not limited but rather have a chance to spawn at certain locations when visiting areas. Consuming certain items such as PSI caramels (limited in ...

They're used in a couple of spots as "flavor text" - your favorite thing will change the name of one of your Psi attacks, and your favorite food will be offered to you at times. (Among other uses for the food you choose, I believe your mother will offer it to you if you return to your house later in the game, and it counts as fully restoring your party's HP ...

Yes. If you are carrying money and lose to a monster, you lose about half of the money you are carrying. The money that is in your bank account however is safe. As long as you aren't going to be fighting, however, it is not a problem to take it out temporarily, since you can also put it back in.

Unfortunately you cannot increase your inventory size in Earthbound. You can utilize your sister at Escargo Express to get your inventory space back however. If Escargo Express isn't listed on the phone directory you can call your Mom and she should give you the number. I think there is an $18 fee though. Each additional character you get also have their ...
