All terminals are hackable. The password for the terminal in the image is either BANNING or SENDING. "0/7 correct" refers not only to the letters in the password, but their position in the word as well. While some of the letters in CISTERN may be in the actual password, none of them are in the correct position.

As already mentioned, all terminals are hackable. You can click on any matching braces like [ ... ], ( ... ), < ... > on the same line to eliminate one password at random or get of of your tries refilled. The second brace will be highlighted if you mouseover a valid pair. My strategy is to click on the first password and note the number of corect ...

You mean to have all combat always be resolved via VATS? No, not really. Keep in mind that while VATS is active, your incoming damage is reduced by 90%, and your attacks have a 15% higher chance to be critical strikes. The downside to this is that your weapons will degrade at 400% of their normal rate in VATS. Don't think of VATS as a turn, but rather as a ...

Looking at the weaponry and vehicles used by the Enclave, I would guess that the creation of heavy-duty personal armour, along with an increase in the power of handheld weapons lead to a focus on mobility. If you can wear the armour of a tank, and carry the weapon of a tank, why do it in the open inside something that can't manoeuvre nor be transported as ...

The story is developed throughout the main quest and answers these questions. Taking time to listen to holotapes and talk to NPCs is a great way to get an understanding of what's happening, and has happened, in the game world. Obviously the rest this answer is just one massive big spoiler, so reader beware! Character History Before Fallout 3 Father's ...

This is just a few of the more well regarded graphical/texture mods to make Fallout 3 prettier. This is by no means comprehensive nor gospel, and I won't even try to vouch for how well all of these will work together without a whole bunch of load order tweaking. Several of them also have other prerequisites that I'm not bothering to link independently here. ...

It's only possible for S.P.E.C.I.A.L. with Broken Steel. You need 70 points to max out stats. Without Broken Steel, there's a total of 40 points baseline, plus another 10 available through 10 ranks of Intense Training, and another 3-6 points from quest perks and gear typically. You could squeeze out another 4 points only at night with the Night Person perk, ...

Beneath Fort Constantine you can access "Bomb Storage" (using a key from Dukov, Ted Strayer, or any of the others from the "You Gotta' Shoot Em' In The Head" quest) and pick up the T-51b Power Armor - with +50 damage reduction, more than any other armor in the game. The winterized armor mentioned in another answer only has +45 DR. There's only one of it in ...

As far as i know the stories don't intertwine too much, just that it has the same setting: a post apocalyptic environment with a touch of 50s. You will encounter some items that are well known for the series e.g the bobble head, but all in all you don't have much to worry about. Personally I've played Fallout 3 without playing the other 3 games and didn't ...

It's the system in which you can pause the action a take aim at specific body parts, with known percentage of hitting them, and with each action costing a specific amount of "action points" (AP). It stands for "Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting system", but mostly it Gives a more cinematic feel when using it, due to the slow-motion action sequence after ...

So, first off, if you don't want to work for it: Evan doesn't have all the info, so he won't send you after the Family directly. You've got two options. Option number one is to inspect the victims a bit more closely with an extremely high (90+) Medicine skill. This gives you the evidence you need to get Evan to send you in the right direction - ask him ...

From Fallout Wikia If you decide to blow up Megaton, she will not die; instead she will become ghoulified. If you started the Wasteland Survival Guide quest, or met her to receive an armored Vault jumpsuit, you will have to visit the Megaton Ruins to find her. If you hadn't started it, she can be found in the Underworld, whereupon she will claim she was ...

If you get bored, you can always try to make piles of this fun/useless stuff and stage your own screenshots. I found a great example in this thread:

No to both questions. The only one which might come close is Broken Steel, which expands on the core story a bit. However, it isn't necessary for any core understanding of the main storyline. The other advantage of Broken Steel is that it does (SPOILER ALERT) allow you to continue playing after the final quest. According to the Fallout Wiki, knowledge of ...

Fallout 3 According to this modder's resource plugin for Fallout 3, the NE corner cell has the coordinates (25, 34) and the SW corner is (-34, -27). That gives a total width of 60 cells and a total height of 62 cells, for a total of 3,720 cells. That's including the unplayable areas outside the rectangle borders, though. Counting only the width and height ...

Do you mean the Power armors? (Maybe this is a regional version difference in nomenclature) You can get power armor training by asking the brotherhood of steel about it after rescuing the scientists from project purity. Alternatively, if Operation: Anchorage is installed, completing the sim will allow you to wear power armor.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure your goal is achievable, as there are generic citizens in some of the major cities -- "Megaton Settlers" and "Rivet City Guards" for instance, that while you may wipe out all of them for once, they will eventually respawn. The other issue is that you are unable to kill children (with good reason!) so the children within Megaton, ...

I'm not sure how it works in the GOTY edition, but if you purchase the expansion packs separately then the missions will appear in your quest log automatically (after a text box pop-up describing some radio signal or something similar). The only expansion which ties into the main story is Broken Steel - it is an extension of the main storyline beyond the ...

It's a glitch which allows you to -- under certain circumstances -- purchase weapons or armor from a shopkeeper, then sell them back for more than you paid for them, and to continuously loop that process, thereby giving you anything you want from the shop, as well as all the shopkeeper's caps, essentially for free. This YouTube video demonstrates it on PC, ...

The basic idea is to move the bobby pin to the correct position then turn the lock with the screwdriver. The correct position isn't immediately obvious though - you have to test positions with trial and error until you find the right spot. The bobby pin shakes more when it's in an incorrect position. As you move towards the correct position it will shake ...

The New Reno Arms shop stores in its basement an artillery cannon. This is an example of heavy weaponry. There might also be some tanks there. New Reno is on the West Coast, to the south of the expanse explored in Fallout New Vegas. You can reach this location in Fallout 2. From this I deduce: the cannon is stored in the basement because the shop was ...

VATS considers distance in its hit chance and will frequently miss. Long range combat should be done without VATS. Each weapon has a Spread rating. Spread is a measure of how far the bullets will deviate from the cross hairs. 0 Spread means that it shoots exactly where you point when shooting outside of VATS. Firearms skill affects damage done on hit, ...

Outside of Megaton, to the left behind where the saloon would be (facing in towards megaton) there is a 'hollowed out rock'. I don't think it shows on the pip boy, but if you move your cross hairs over it, it will say something like 'Open hollowed out rock'. There are 2 or three molerats around, at least at lower levels. Inside is some food, a note and ...

The easiest way to do this is to engage in a trick known as Reverse Pickpocketing. In short, what you need to do is plant a higher quality suit of armor on the individual wearing the gear you want (measured by defense rating). They'll then equip this armor, leaving you free to pickpocket the gear they're wearing. The Metal Armor and Helmet are a good choice ...

Fallout 3 is set about a century after Fallout 2, and about 2500 miles away, in the Washington DC region, whereas the original two Fallouts were set on the west coast. While there are a few callbacks and references, you need not have any experience with them to enjoy the game - in fact, your character by definition, is incapable of having any knowledge of ...

Yes, yes, yes! Due to the addition of the Fallout New Vegas issue, I was able to Google that and find this .dll, which proved to be helpful in solving the issue. Just download the d3d9.dll linked here: Alternate D3D9 Fix for ATI. Thanks a ton to the author of this .dll. I can confirm that it fixed the problem with both Fallout games and hope it can solve ...
