The game continues to use the isometric turn-based grid system, however, in this game some enemies can now take up multiple squares on the grid. The world map now has area maps, which feature multiple battle locations and over 300 missions.
The jobs have been expanded and characters can learn abilities by equipping job-specific weapons, armor, etc, which can be obtained through the Bazaar in the Shop menu.
The Law System in this game has been revised, breaking laws no longer sends the player's characters to jail, but instead negates whatever Clan Privilege the player set for the battle and prevents the player from reviving any fallen allies. Upholding the law rewards the player after a battle with bonus items.
This game shares many traits from Tactics Ogre, like MP starting from 0 and gaining treasure after defeating a foe.
