As Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 saves your games in a non-Steam-specific location ([My Documents]/Bioware/Mass Effect and [My Documents]/Bioware/Mass Effect 2) Mass Effect 3 should not have any problem finding your previous save games.

Though this is just speculation, I would assume the "Virmire Survivor" is referencing:

There are many small carry over effects from ME1->ME2, but here are the major ones: Depending on who you save on Virmire, that person will make an appearance in ME2 and be a squad member in ME3 (Your love interest may carry over as well, assuming you didn't cheat on them in ME2). If Wrex dies in ME1, then the state of the Krogans will be different in ME2. ...

If you have not played the Lair of the Shadow Broker, Liara is initially referred to as an information broker, like she was on Illium. ...until you get onto the privacy of the Normandy, where she has set up shop, and admits to Shepard that she has tracked down and usurped "the galaxy's most notorious information broker". The dialog is a bit different if ...

This answer contains spoilers from ME 1 and 2. The Reapers do not seek to destroy all organic life, nor do they try. Their interest in organic life seems to lie solely in that they use it for reproduction - i.e., to make more Reapers. To this end, they seed the galaxy with their artifacts - The Mass Relays and The Citadel itself - such that life will ...

Was there any other working pod found on Eden Prime bunker? I mean, Why was he the only one preserved? There were thousands of pods on Ilos in the the Conduit, which was a Prothean research centre. Quoting the Mass Effect wiki When the Citadel was attacked, the Conduit shut down to avoid detection & went into stasis, to be monitored by Vigil. ...

It appears you are a little bit mistaken - while there were Prothean Ruins (and technology) on Mars, the only Mass Relay in the System was orbiting Pluto; The so-called "Charon Relay" was discovered in 2149, only a year after the Prothean Ruins were discovered on Mars. Given the level of advancement of humanity before the Prothean Ruins were uncovered, it ...

Virmire is a planet on ME1 where the player must choose to kill off a squad mate: Ashley Williams or Kaidan Alenko. Ashley is a female solider while Kaidan is a male sentinel. Both are potential romance options for a hetro-Shepard. In ME2, after the Horizon mission, Shepard has the opportunity to speak to the Virmire survivor: The former squadmate is ...

It's in your codex, under Technology. The Wiki also explains it and contains the codex except: Mass effect fields are created through the use of element zero. Element zero can increase or decrease the mass content of space-time when subjected to an electrical current via dark energy. With a positive current, mass is increased. With a negative current, ...

The "mass effect" is the (psuedo-)scientific principle behind most of the technologies in the series. For instance, the "mass relays" allow faster than light travel by exploiting the mass effect. It's also the reason why weapons have unlimited ammunition (what you're actually doing is "venting a heat sink") and the way in which all of the biotic powers ...

It looks like the Mass Effect Trilogy contains the following games; Mass Effect Bring Down the Sky Mass Effect 2 Cerberus Network Pass Kasumi (Stolen Memory) Overlord Lair of the Shadow Broker Blood Dragon Armour Mass Effect 3 This leaves quite a few DLCs unaccounted for, and I'm not sure if all of them are available on the Playstation 3. It is ...

According to your comment, you're only interested in recurring or important characters. (I am not counting the post-gameplay ending of ME3 here, which has very obvious consequences based on choices you make in the ending sequences - you will know what you're getting into.) To summarize without spoilers, when you ask "Are all major NPCs, by the end of the ...

Kasumi, Jacob, Miranda, Zaeed, Jack, Grunt, and Samara can all be recruited as war assets if they survived ME2 and events in ME3. The strength of the Normandy is effected by the amount of upgrades applied in ME2 Having a lot of mineral resources at the end of ME2 may grant you a bonus of up to 100 war assets. The Destiny Ascension can be added as a war ...

The way the child phrases things, it's not an issue of "who?", but an issue of "we can't take that chance". Back before the Reapers, presumably, some civilization built a synthetic civilization, and it went rogue. The response to this was to prevent any civilization from ever advancing far enough to build a synthetic civilization again. The Reaper Child ...

There was never supposed to be an entirely human council. It is true that Udina suggests that at the end of ME1 but a human-only council is never confirmed to have been a fact in subsequent games. If you let the old council die, the new one will be led by humans but won't be purely human. That's how the council is presented in ME2 no matter what Udina says ...

The Turian society is highly militarized and based on a meritocracy. Throughout their lives, Turians are promoted and demoted throughout 27 "citizenship tiers" by proving their worth and value to their society. Primarch is the highest rank you can attain. The Codex entry on Turian government says the following: At the top are the Primarchs, who each ...

Why are they similar? Externally, reapers follow a set design (though the armada seen at the end of ME2 shows that there is room for some variation), but internally capital ships contain a core which is roughly in the image of the one species which is harvested to create capital ships.[1][2] What are destroyers made of? Whilst it is not definitely ...

This depends largely on what you want out of the game. There is a long story interwoven between the three installments, and you'll certainly miss the depth and some of the plot by not playing through all three and importing your character along the way. However the main plot arc is very linear throughout the series, and you won't be totally lost if you ...

Based on that logic, one could argue that Humans and Asari are related. After all, they seem very similar in physical shape (hair excepted) and physiological characteristics. They have the same number of digits on their hands, and identical foot and leg structure. They also both have Levo-amino based bio-chemistry. The point I'm trying to make is that they ...

You miss out on a few things, I'd only consider the interactions with Wrex as major: BDTS DLC for the first one allows you to have some war assets if you took the paragon path. Conrad Verner needs to have survived in both the first and second to show up as a war asset in the third. You have to have saved the Rachni queen in the first to gain her as an ...

Bioware has long stated that there is no canon in Mass Effect - this was mentioned in many interviews after the original game was released. One such quote by Casey Hudson says: "We have a rule in our franchise that there is no canon." However, based on the information available in the games through default choices made if you start a new character in ...

As I mentioned in my comment, the ME Wikia has a really detailed storyline article that captures all the games, DLC, and books, but it's a long read, so here's the short rundown: The Mass Effect series is the story of Commander Shepard, who is essentially a special forces soldier who gets tapped to be the first human to join an inter-species galactic ...

Gibbed's Mass Effect 2 Save Editor (Modified) should allow you to convert save files between Xbox360 and PC formats. Here are some instructions for moving the save files to and from the Xbox360.

Even after her angry reaction towards Shepard's decision to work with Cerberus, Ashley sends him a mail apologizing for her outburst. In part, it reads: I'm sorry for what I said back on Horizon. When I lost you two years ago, it tore me up. I prayed for you every day. I read a lot of Tennyson, thinking about you, just like I did when my dad passed. And ...

From the wiki: In 2186, Emily Wong reported for FCC News and the Alliance News Network from Earth on the Sol system's mysterious comm buoy outage. She was able to establish off-world communications via a Quantum Entanglement Communicator. While reporting, she witnessed a Reaper descend through Earth's atmosphere into airspace over Los Angeles. She ...

In each game, there's an option to use a premade default Shepard. This Shepard is a Soldier, Earthborn Sole Survivor. If male, his name is 'John', if female 'Jane'. Since this didn't change between games, I think we can assume it's as close to canon as anything (and certainly is in the same vein of the didn't-import-a-save options).

According to the Mass Effect wiki article on Turians, females do not appear in the early games due to development constraints. A female Turian does appear in the Mass Effect 3 DLC Omega. According to the article on Elcor, female Elcor can be heard in the Citadel advertisements for Elcor Hamlet and Blasto 6: Partners In Crime. I can find no mention of ...

It's very difficult to answer this without spoilers. It's also difficult to answer about choice impact on ME3, as the game isn't out yet! In ME1: There's a few choices that affect whether/which teammates survive. There's a major choice at the end which affects the Citadel's political power structure. There's a choice or two that affects potential ...

The Mass Effect Wiki has a nice page about what transfers.. A lot of the decisions that transfer happen at the end of the game and are very obvious they transfer.

"Reaper? A label created by the Protheans to give voice to their destruction. In the end, what they choose to call us is irrelevant. We simply... are." There is a lot of information about them here -- I'll copy the summary, but the whole page is worth a read (beware of the obvious spoilers of course) The Reapers, known by the geth as the Old Machines, ...
