Rock Band is a rhythm-based music game, developed by Harmonix Music Systems and published by Electronic Arts and MTV Games. Rock Band differentiated itself from the already existing Guitar Hero franchise by adding vocals and drums as additional playable instruments. Players must watch a stream of notes move from the top to the bottom of their screens, and play the notes at the correct time. Vocalists, however, have the top part of the screen sectioned off, where the pitch and lyrics of the song are shown.
Rock Band has been released for the Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, and Nintendo Wii, and has sparked many spin-off games, including The Beatles: Rock Band and Green Day: Rock Band. Only 58 songs were included with the original game disc, but there are over 1000 songs that can be downloaded in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.
