I play only a few games competitively.

Once in a while I play other games, but I do not spend much time on them. I like to delve into a game until I understand all concepts and strategies that make it work.

Some of my favorite games are:

Warcraft III
Half Life
Phantasy Star IV
Fallout 1, 2 & 3

I hate MMORPGs and think they are a waste of time, especially WOW.

The best tip is: Stick to one game and one build order and train microing / macroing. The best game for this ATM is Starcraft 2. A good (Diamond or Masters League) Starcraft 2 player can easily switch to another RTS game and learn the specifics in the matter of some hours. He will then beat you with mechanics, even if your strategies are overall better.

Up to a certain level of play the player with better execution wins, because he can just copy a good strategy with the corresponding build order and execute it properly. You do not need to know much about strategy to win a RTS game. I have read both books and they didn't help me. The problem is that they are great for creating a (new) strategy, but they do not help you micro or macro better.

Sep 2	comment	SSFIVAE: Why do Ryu's standing and jumping EX.Tatsu do different damage in combos? @Wilerson: Your are right -.-. Standing = 13 Hit Combo, Jumping = 9 Hit combo. So it seems only half the Ulta hits. Formulate an answer and I will accept it.
