This screenshot from the DT Google Code page suggests that the number is supposed to be the value of the attribute, which suggests that the text descriptions you're seeing are not actually relevant to the numerical values.

Still going from memory because I didn't have a chance to check this last night - doesn't DT have a way to see an overview of a dwarf's stats and skills? I vaguely recall seeing something like that. IIRC, this will show the current level and EXP to level of the stats and skills for that dwarf. That might shed some light on what the numbers you're seeing mean.

Feb 24	comment	Why am I being sent to kill Peasants? I haven't played the new version yet, but I recall reading something in the dev notes about vampires and werewolves being able to disguise themselves as normal folk. Is it possible that there's more to your peasant than meets the eye?

Dec 25	comment	Is there anything to do with multiple crafting items? @Oak - Little update. I fired Dredmor up the other night for the first time in a while and found that I could split stacks of crafting items by Alt-clicking them in the inventory screen. Happy hunting.

Dec 16	comment	Should I move my village underground before triggering hardmode? @MatthewScharley Would it be possible to replace the first block of regular dirt in your trench with ash/clay/etc. to prevent the trench itself from becoming corrupted/hallowed? I haven't gotten to the point yet where I can test this, but will be giving it a spin soon.

Dec 13	comment	How can I make Dwarf Fortress easier? @SevenSidedDie Before it had Linux compatibility, it ran just fine under Wine. You might want to look into a Windows emulator. I'm not a habitual Mac user, so I can't really make any specific recommendations, though.

I could be mis-remembering, but wasn't there supposed to be one rare, set or unique item per visit to gambling? It's been a while since I played, but I recall using the strategy of going in with enough money to buy everything to be guaranteed one special item and selling back all the blues.
