comment How do I defend against Nydus attacks in a StarCraft 2 team game?
@hello71 actually they can build the pylon outside your base. all they need is vision to warp in.

comment How can I predict where my opponent will spawn?
In my rating scheme, downvotes are reserved for actively bad answers - incorrect info, snark, or just missing the point entirely. Merely mediocre questions get nothing, and helpful ones get upvotes. Normally I think this is enough for the best answers to float to the top, with minimal downvoting required.

comment How can I predict where my opponent will spawn?
Because it explains by example the general concept of how people know where to scout - the fact that certain maps have restrictions on spawning locations. A more complete answer, by shawn, has more upvotes. that is as it should be IMHO.

comment What is the melee-attack damage of a roach and how does it upgrade? Is it splash?
oops. looks like gaming does have the close feature, but i don't have enough rep here yet.

does gaming not have the ability to vote to close a question as a dupe? i guess i am too used to stackoverflow. anyway, this question should be merged with gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/6976/…

comment How to beat a Zerg that goes for a Zergling/Baneling/Mutalisk mix?
thors do beat mutas, but you still need to have enough of them, which means staying even macro wise with the zerg - either by building more workers and expanding, or by harassing and denying them expansions. It takes 400/400 worth of magic boxed mutas to kill a thor, which costs 300/200. If your opponent has twice the income as you, he will still win that battle.

comment How to destroy a base more efficiently in Starcraft 2
+ 1 for the larva tip. nothing softens the sting of losing a hatchery quite as much as watching enemy units waste time uselessly bashing away at my larva.

comment Is there a fee for cancelling a building?
@Raven Dreamer: Salvaging a bunker is one case that is similar to canceling but gets you 100% of your minerals back. It is the closest thing to an exception that I can think of.

comment StarCraft 2 - How are disconnects handled?
grrr. i had such a phantom disconnect as well. just as we destroyed the last units of the other team's armies, we got disconnected. no sign of the game in match history, but both me and my teammate could view the replay. it was uncanny (and hopefully just a coincidence) that the game disconnected just as the other players reached 0 food.

comment Why don't the pros kill the scouting probe as it passes through their mineral line?
I thought you both were saying "it's not worth it" with slight variations on why. when you say it is a waste of time to kill a probe, your reason seems to be that it is unlikely to work because a pro can micro out of a surround before the scout dies, whereas nick is saying it is a waste of time because you lose more minerals than you "gain" by killing a 50 mineral unit.

your answer was just as good as nick's, but it looked like Nick needs the bonus rep more than you do at this point :)

comment Effect of being an Armored unit in Starcraft 2?
I think my overlords cry themselves to sleep every night lamenting that they are "Armored" despite having 0 actual armor.

comment Countering MMM + Vikings as Protoss?
what were your relative food counts? did you have at least as big an army as him? did you have as many workers? Those factors are often more important to winning/losing than vikings vs colossi.

comment What exactly is a “cheese” in Starcraft 2?
I disagree that scholar's mate is cheese. white doesn't really risk anything by doing it, and black has to practically cooperate for it to work.

comment When exactly do players move between leagues?
I then switched my play style from a 5RR early aggression style to a more macro defensive style, and have been losing often enough (hopefully only until i adapt) that I now face some silver opponents again, despite still being in gold. Try to notice what league you opponents are in. if they are all in a higher league, or 2 leagues higher, then you will be promoted eventually...

comment When exactly do players move between leagues?
This doesn't answer your literal question, but it may address your underlying eagerness to move up to the next league. It doesn't matter what league you are in, unless you care about the bragging rights. You will play opponents that are roughly equal to your skill no matter what league your are in. I started in bronze, and was playing silver and the occasional gold player before i was promoted. Then eventually I was playing mostly gold and a few platinum players, though still in silver. I have since been promoted to gold.

"basic ranged to harass them while they try to break through the rocks" dammit one thing i really want to know right now is whether roaches can shoot through rocks now. Not that I rememember if they could before :) why do i always think of these things when i am not at home?

comment What's the best counter for Protoss Carriers?
"don't let them get that far" could be said about any unit though. If I let my opponent get mass seige tank and I have all anti air, i'm just as screwed. If I let them get mass marine and all i have is immortals or corrupters or phoenix i am just as screwed. There is nothing special about carriers that makes 2000 minerals worth of them any scarier than 2000 minerals worth of something else, other than the stupidity of the AI that thinks attacking interceptors is smart. I just killed 10 carriers in a unit tester with less mineral/gas's worth of corrupters. (i did it with 24 corrupters)
