What determines mission difficulty? Definitely not the plot, as I held off investigating the shard for a long time but enemies continued to get tougher. Research seems unlikely as it could easily unbalance the game if you happened to research too fast or too slow. Most likely either Elapsed time, or some kind of counter that goes up for each mission you undertake (and maybe those that you don't). There isn't really a good way to know for sure. |

Can a 'lone wolf' soldier be mind controlled? I don't see why not - it should just skip your turn until the mind control wears off. |

How do I effectively combat a cyberdisc? I'm not sure but I think HEAT ammo somehow gets applied to grenades too. I once had my heavy chuck an alien grenade at a cyberdisk and it did 10 damage to the disc and the nearby drones. Normally these grenades are a fixed 5 damage, so I suspect HEAT ammo is the reason. |

How long do crashed UFO's last? This is very useful info! Is there also a timer for how long you have to shoot down a flying UFO? |

What do the icons next to a soldier's rank icon mean? The white cross also means this soldier probably won't gain any more experience this mission no matter how many more aliens he kills. Testing has shown that a unit can only gain at most 1 rank per mission, and there does not seem to be any carry-over (a Rookie with 12 kills gets promoted to Squaddie, next mission only gets 1 but remains Squaddie). |

If i change projects, do I lose research? Also, if you start work on a tech and get it partway complete, then interrogate an alien that applies a research credit to that tech, then when you resume researching it, the number of research points (scientist days) required is now half of the ORIGINAL amount. Eg) 10 scientists work 5 days on Beam Weapons (50 of 120RP), then you stop and interrogate a Sectoid. Upon resuming Beam Weapons, you now have 50 of 60RP completed and it will only take 1 more day to finish. |

positioning with different heights I find using G and T to zoom can sometimes help get past the roof while still keeping the second floor selected. |

Should I reveal new areas early or late in the turn? Since most units have the same sight range as their attack range, usually only the unit triggering the enemy plus your snipers will have any chance of a reaction shot, unless their movement brings them into range of another unit. I like to have 2 snipers and give Opportunist to one of them, and that guy is the only one on overwatch while exploring. Once the sniper reaches Colonel though, double-tap might be better than being able to snipe an enemy caught in the open. |

What is the benefit of launching a satellite “a few days before the monthly report” So there may be some cases where you might want to launch earlier: If you're about to do some interrogating, covering South America now instead of at the end of the month may be worthwhile. Or cover Asia if about to buy expensive OTS or Foundry upgrades. Or maybe you have a covered country at level 4 panic and don't want to risk another abduction on that continent - finish off coverage of that continent now and you won't have to worry! |
