More of a game developer than a gamer. I'm particularly partial to Paradox Interactive's brand of grand strategy games, but I've also enjoyed the first two C&C games, Rise of Nations, and the occasional racing or sports game.

Sorry, there's nothing to see down here except a boring Twitter account. Mostly boring, anyway. But you have to be at least a little interested or you wouldn't have scrolled this far, right?

comment Why did I lose?
The history log is saved in the game logs folder, or at least it is in some Paradox games. Might have a look there.

comment Is it possible to change war goal?
I don't remember the rules if the capital is isolated but is a port. The manual doesn't even mention that isolated capitals can be taken.

Demanding the capital (without full annexation) is only an option when it is cut off from the rest of the country.

@DavidHarkness: I don't know what you mean by a "special" advisor; all types of advisors occur randomly. Inquisitor is an administrative advisor.

comment Releasing a vassal as a vassal?
In EU3 and earlier, I know it was possible for vassals to have vassals. I haven't tested in EU4.

comment How can I find out which provinces are owned by another (enemy) country?
Nifty idea, although it's still a bit of a pain. In For the Glory, I finally got fed up and added a tooltip to the warscore percentage if the enemy controls three or fewer provinces.

comment Why is the pope so erratic?
The game is written in C++. You are correct that this is not technically a scripting language, since the game does not execute them directly, but effectively there is very little difference. And it is nice to have the scripts and the data all in the same format.

comment What to do with all this gold?
It was my own fault, really; I attacked Serbia knowing it was allied with Austria, but I forgot that Austria could then call Castille/Aragon/etc. into the war. I rarely declare war on countries with powerful allies, so I'd never been bitten by cascading alliances before.

Not entirely useless; if you lose a war, you can often throw money at them to limit your territorial losses. Playing as the Ottomans, I was halfway occupied with skyrocketing WE and couldn't touch Austria's forces in battle, and then the Mamelukes declared war to pile on. I got out of the western war for 1500 ducats and two tiny countries (Morea and Armenia) released, then proceeded to mop the floor with the Mamelukes.

comment Attack coastal provinces with ships?
If I remember correctly, it also takes a certain level of diplomatic technology before blockading is possible.

comment Can I upgrade obsolete units, and if so, how?
This only applies to land units. The only way to upgrade ships is to build new ones and scuttle the old.
