comment When do I earn and lose ranking points in heroes of the storm?
As already answered, Blizzard keeps their MMR formulas hidden. Let me describe what happens in Starcraft II, as a reference. SC2 also has a hidden MMR and a visible rating. Rating does behave similar to MMR, but is constantly inflating due to "bonus pool" aka "rested points" within a season. This is made to make people think that they are progressing somehow and competing in a race of sorts. The true MMR is unknown, but most probably stable. It is most likely that HotS ranking functions the same way - provide an impression of progress and only distantly related to skill level.

Okay, no, do not believe. i.imgur.com/CNQwXXZ.png Either this is intended by a game designer for some reason, or this is a catastrophic screw-up by QA department.

For reference - what system are you playing on, what graphics level? I've skimmed through some gameplay on Youtube, and it seems to be covered up pretty well, like here: i.imgur.com/s3fm6DR.png Maybe on lower detail levels the bandage is just misaligned with barcode texture? As a software developer, I absolutely believe such a mishap could go unnoticed :-)

comment new damage calculation with set bonuses
By the way, Bastion of Will ring set (aka Focus/Restraint) give two exclusive +50%s, translaring into +125% total.

Mostly those outrageous +300-400-500-600% are exclusive multipliers, not stacking with anything. I am, though, absolutely not sure about Wizard's sets and if there is an universal rule to them. I know Marauder's and Natalya's 6-piece are exclusive.

@CraigHarris, generally what you find at low levels is only good for those low levels. So, pre-70 crafted sets can be very powerful for a new character, when you already have the plan learned and materials stacked up. Apart from that, not really useful, yes.

@Chessbrain For story, yes. But (as a D2, TQ, TQ:IM, BL, BL2, BLTPS, D3, D3:RoS player) I'd say D3's gameplay and progression are much more polished (now, in version 2.2). So, if you play the game for the gameplay itself, D3 probably will come as a winner. Still, this only applies after experiencing story, art style and environment, and these are still good in TQ.

Plans that drop are never one of those which you Artisans already know. If, however, the plan just sits in your inventory or several drop at once, there may be duplicates, so you better teach everyting you find to Artisans ASAP... Or, well, collect an entire stash tab of Blitzbolet plans like this guy :-)

comment Does the Steam client automatically download pre-ordered games after their release?
As I father to a three-year-old, I wish you luck in finding an answer :-) On topic though - check game page several days before the release - it should have a Preload button. I've seen people on Twitter mention preloading GTAV couple of days ago.

comment What counts as a “hit” for the new affix on Broken Promises?
Well, an internal cooldown for basically anything does "nerf" that thing, but still there are lots of item effects with internal cooldowns. This may be a subtle indication that Blizzard does not want to make players as powerful as they demand to be.

comment Borderlands Pre-Sequel - Number of possible weapons
Example calculation: number of possible Assault Rifles, not counting levels, elements, and Uniques/Legendaries (these are few anyway): there are 7 barrels (one e-tech), 5 grips, 5 stocks, 6 scopes (including none), 5 bodies, and 8 accessories (including none). Now, considering common items don't roll accessory, and purple always have accessory, we have: white: 6x5x5x6x5x1 + green+blue (2x)6x5x5x6x5x8 + purple+e-tech 7x5x5x6x5x7 = 113 250 Assault Rifles.

I'm kind of upset with that I have lots of work and family duties now, and can't just sit down, dust off my combinatorics math skills and straight up calculate the answer. Almost all the data can be found in this thread on Steam...
