comment Quickly turn 180 degrees?
Newtonian physics would imply that momentum is conserved. Possibly that's what you meant? In fact, though, it isn't. If you boost and turn off FA, your speed will slowly reduce to your ship's maximum speed. This game does not have fully Newtonian physics. And regardless, AFAIK there's no way to spin as fast as the ships do in the trailer.

comment Why did all my systems shut down when I deployed hardpoints?
Be careful with powering down your cargo hatch - I thought that was safe, but when I boosted away from an enemy with it turned off, all my cargo went floating out into space!

My approach to priorities is: 1. Life support (debatable); 2. Defensive stuff: Thrusters, shields, maybe sensors; 3. Weapons; 4. FSD. It's totally viable to run with a moderate power deficit, because the FSD requires quite a lot of power even when not being used - it's hard to see the downside of having the FSD powered off when hardpoints are deployed, since you can't activate it anyway. (problem for discovery scanners & interdictors, perhaps?)

@freiheit pretty sure that your docking request will be denied if you're a criminal with the faction that controls the station.

comment Why would you ever want to dash in XCOM? (Rather than making two half moves.)
I'm not sure enough of this to post it as an answer, but in addition to the defence bonus I think that dashing gives you slightly more distance than two single moves. It may be related to diagonal moves and rounding...

:-) I was about to answer, then I saw this comment. You should put it as an answer.

comment How does alien hostility work?
This sounds plausible, but it isn't the whole story - I've had units be surrounded and destroyed by aliens when further than that from a nest, and when I'd never attacked any of them.

Back in the day, was this game actually available for Macs? Never saw a PC without a 2-button mouse.

comment What's the best amount of Hz?
Leon: Hi, welcome to Arqade. The answer to the question you actually asked ("what is the best number of Hz") is "It doesn't matter much". I've suggested an edit that changes the question to what I think you actually want to know - please have a look and approve it if so. If I have changed the intent, then I apologise.

comment What is the difference between a missionary and a great prophet?
Perhaps worth adding: The other significant difference is that missionaries get easier to generate as the game goes on (as they cost a fixed amount of faith, and you're generating more), while Great Prophets stay difficult and may get harder (as each new Great Prophet takes more faith to produce). This is the reason not to just use Great Prophets for everything!
