comment Do you need a heat shield to land on Duna?
@Coomie That depends on how you define the difference between a "direct descent with the right angle" and "entering orbit with aerobreaking a bit too close so you slow down too much and fall into the atmosphere" (did the latter accidentally on my last mission to Duna and the craft landed unharmed).

comment Can you Stop Viking Raiders with Conversion?
I don't think that this is a viable solution. When these troops are your personal levy, it would cost you more in a month than a raid would cost you. When these troops are from your vassals, they will soon get very angry at you.

comment How does the temperature overlay work?
Just my theory, but I think the overlay calibrates to the average temperature of the vessel. So on the launchpad everything is equally red because everything is equally hot/cold. Only when specific parts become significantly hotter than the rest, does the rest of the vessel become dimmer. Also it seems like red means cold and yellow means hot.

comment How fast should I be going through Kerbin's atmosphere during launch?
I added the "during launch" to differentiate this question from gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/215754/…

comment What causes soldiers to panic?
eMoraleEvent_SetOnFire? Soldiers can catch fire? I don't recall anytime this ever happened in one of my playthroughs. Is there actually a situation in the game which sets characters/aliens on fire or is this something which was planned but dummied out before release?

comment What are the key design principles when building a space plane?
Thank you for posting this answer two years ago. But now with version 1.0 and the new aerodynamic system it seems to be quite outdated. Maybe you would like to revise it? I put a bounty of 100 points on this question.

comment How do you tell if re-entry will destroy your ship?
Speaking of service bays and drag: Good idea: Put radially-mounted parachutes into the service bay. Bad idea: closing the bay after deploying the chutes - it removes the drag of all parts rooted inside of them to 0, which includes deployed parachutes even when they visually appear to be outside. You will be missed, Valentina Kerman.

Using a service bay for any smaller parts you used to mount radially also has aerodynamical advantages during the launch. When you have them outside, they create quite a lot of drag which costs you vital delta-v. I was able to significantly increase the performance of a rocket by moving radially-mounted batteries and science parts into a service bay.

I had a 1.25m ship with a 1.25m heat-shield and radially-mounted OX-STAT panels return directly from Mun at >3000m/s. The panels survived. However, I got in quite flat and opened the parachute as early as possible. The heat-shield didn't even lose ablation material.

comment Lock up in space plane hangar issue
You could try to save the plane, go back to the space center, click the runway and select the saved plane to launch.

You mean the plane doesn't fly? Do you have air intakes on the plane? Jet engines require intake air to fly.

comment How can I get a pod back from orbit when it's out of fuel?
@Flater Just confirmed with the new version 1.0 that EVA propellant is not taken from the monopropellant of the pod. I checked it by going on an EVA, flying around a bit, and returning. After repeating this three times, the monopropellant amount of the pod was still 10.0/10.0 afterwards.

@Flater AFAIK the "mono-propellant" carried by most command modules and the "EVA fuel" the cerbonauts use are two separate resources.

comment Foreigner son-in-law went on a killing spree, then formed a militia just to stand around for awhile… did I miss something?
Characters with the "Become Spymaster" ambition will often try to get the job through klingon promotion and murder the spymaster of their liege. That might explain why he killed each of your wifes after you made her your spymaster.

I think you misunderstood me. I mean "[Character] died under mysterious circumstances" was literally the message I received.

So the bug is in because of the conveyors, not the assemblers?

I also had some very important people (like claimants in a press-claim war) die "under mysterious circumstances" which is quite obviously a plot-murder.
