Software Engineer for YarcData, a division of Cray Inc

I have a PhD and BSc(Hons) in Computer Science, my PhD research was conducted at the University of Southampton, UK. My research interests revolved around the Semantic Web, Linked Data and robustness of Hypermedia systems.

I'm a total RDF and SPARQL nut and in my spare time I work on an open source Semantic Web framework for .Net called dotNetRDF.

I'm also a committer on the Apache Jena project which is a widely used Semantic Web framework for Java.

comment How do the damage mission modifiers work?
Yes pretty much, when you shoot an enemy with the wrong damage type it will typically flash up as Resist which indicates there is a damage penalty, when you shoot an enemy with the correct damage type the damage numbers should show up in the relevant colour (purple, orange or blue) to indicate bonus damage has been dealt

comment How do the damage mission modifiers work?
@Chris I think because correctly matched elemental damage bonus is higher than the burn damage modifier (after taking into effect the unmatched shield damage reduction). I've seen the standard matched elemental damage bonus (which applies by default) quoted as 2x (i.e. 200%) but again no hard references on that so that would seem to be the case.

It's also possible to put together armor combinations which cause ability usages to recharge each other. For example I have a helmet which has Grenade hits recharge melee energy and gloves with Melee hits replenish grenade energy - virtuous cycle :)

comment Can someone explain the Xbox 360 version's battle results screen in more detail?
I'm fairly certain Detected is actually the opposite, it is the number of tanks that you detected for your team.

comment Why do FPS games for consoles include a sensitivity setting?
@Jason Berkan This is a case of straw that broke the camels back, in general I have found the community here to be very unwelcoming compared to other SE communities and the restrictions on question types seem to restrict them purely to things I could answer with a google/wiki/GameFAQs.com search instead. I have cancelled all my tag subscriptions to the site and will instead participate in other Q&A communities where I actually feel welcome

Well I think that ends any attempt on my part to get involved in the Arqade community :-(

Because most users probably never even know the option exist as it is often buried away in the Options menu. How often do you actually go into the Options menu on a console game?

comment How do you use cloak effectively?
Grenades don't actually count as a power usage so if you have grenades as one of your powers you can spam grenades while moving around cloaked and then still make a stealth attack to get the damage bonus

comment I just bought an Xbox 360 game with wrong region. What should I do?
@Jon W Not sure if your comment was genuine or attempted sarcasm but as a Brit now living in the US owning both a UK and US X-Box I would agree that's a perk though I kept both more for the ability to play all my existing Region 2 DVDs
