comment Can we play Portal 2 co-op on one PC or Mac?
Actually, if you have two xbox 360 controllers plugged in, and you map a joystick cfg and load a coop map, it works. Still sound like 'hack'? Perhaps you should lobby meta to classify all console commands or cheat-enabling as un-discussable 'game hacking'. ;)

This isn't a 'hack' that relies on some exploit based on a controller being unplugged at just the right time. It's built in functionality that relies on the secondary controller being on joystick ID #2. Unplugging is just an easy way to enable it. If they didn't want players playing split screen on the PC, they would have just disabled it. It's pretty obvious this was an unfinished feature they didn't want to have to support because it's still buggy in certain circumstances. And I doubt they'll ever admit they're fine with it because it would be an invitation to a support nightmare for them.

Solution is the same for both PC and Mac. Should mention PC in the question so that you don't get only Mac users looking at this.

comment How do you set up Portal 2 split-screen co-op on a PC?
Did you actually READ the forum threads? The steam forums have NOT nailed down the exact solution that works for all instances and the solution post is sloppy and managed by one person, Many have gotten it to work through trial and error. I figured gaming.stackexchange could do a better job than the steam forums by using its voting mechanism to help the community narrow down the definitive solution that works for all. But I guess link references to a forum in the wild are good enough for you. Anyways good luck nailing a solution down with the 11% of the steam population that is Mac users.
