comment What is the fastest way to travel long distances in Minecraft?
A theoretical, super-dangerous solution using ender-pearls would be to set up basins around nether portals in the nether, and use targeted ender-pearls to teleport between them. Apart from the high risk of missing and teleporting directly into lava, there's the added bonus of being completely awesome.

This doesn't answer the question of "how do I lock-on the target?".

comment Distance that a broken block can be collected by you
@DalexL, I'm hesitant to agree with that statement, because it implies a rounded radius. I would say that your character has a hitbox of 1m² and that it has a "gathering" box of 3m² both centered around the character.

That's a good way to burn yourself alive, as well as ruin any abandoned mineshafts.

comment What tools do you use to help you build structures?
@RavenDreamer, yes, because it's simpler that way. Also, it allows you to choose whether you want the diameter to be even or odd. If you want it even, you can use the sides twice, if odd, only once.

It's up to you really, if you fill in blocks that are red, you'll get a solid 1/8 sphere. If you fill in the white blocks, you'll get a sphere cavity. You can also use just the first plan as a circle of a given radius. As I said, I use my own tools, so it makes enough sense for me.
