I've discovered that while destroying the environment imparts no spirit gain as a monk, it will reset the countdown on Sweeping Wind and possibly other similar skills that refresh on strike.

"Unofficial" ways usually just include any goals the player sets for him or herself -- building some crazy structure, a fortress under the ocean, breaching the HFS and conquering the resulting... fun. Et cetera.

 comment How to kill Grelod the Kind secretly?
Trying not to spoiler too much, but, how do you get the Shrouded Gloves without finishing this quest? As far as I know, there are a limited, fixed number of them and they all require events that are set in motion by killing Grelod. Not that you need the gloves, as she's a wimp.

I'm fairly certain, but I admit I haven't done any kind of controlled research -- I saved my game, took the perk and swung a few times, reloaded and did the same and compared the feel. It did not seem noticeably faster. I was using daggers, maybe it's already fast enough that the speed difference was minor?

You can apply potion effects to physical damage as well, though (Fortify One-Handed, for example).
