I graduated from Computer Systems Technology at SIAST Kelsey Campus in 2008. This 2-year course concentrates on hands-on, collaborative projects as opposed to being heavily theory based like many university computer science programs. I gained experience with many different programming languages such as Java, C#, and C++. CST also included classes which exposed me to various DB engines such as Oracle, MS SqlServer, and mySQL. It was also the first place I learned about eXtreme Programming (XP) practices. My favorite part was getting to work through full projects as part of a team who was responsible for the entire life-cycle including development, acceptance testing, delivery, deployment, and maintenance.

I am now a Software Developer on an Agile Scrum team at Point2 Technologies. We practice XP techniques such as pair-programming, TDD, continuous integration, and clean code. My experience here so far has made me into a very effective Java (JVM) developer and I like utilizing tools and frameworks such as Maven-2, Hibernate, Spring, JUnit, Mockito, and pretty much anythign from Apache. The project my previous team and I just finished let us play with some new, *shiny* things such as OSGi, Camel, Jython, and MongoDB. I am currently on a new team which is very heavy on the DOT.NET stack but we also get oppurtunities to use Python and Django. We are currently developing a service-oriented, domain-driven, MVC 3 web application and I am loving the new challenges!

When I experience this problem, my XBOX's Network Test discovers nothing. I find it pretty much useless when this problem occurs. Maybe you will have better results...

No, I never even thought of that. I will give it a shot... thanks for the suggestion!

This just also popped into my head... Has anyoe tryed to climb stairs while in second chance? What is the result? Does it let you go up or not or just kill you?

I usually die too when going down stairs but there has been occasions where I was able to go down full stair cases. I know I die if I drop off a ledge of any sort. Maybe some stairs are smooth, angled surfaces and some stairs are built like actual stair cases with hirizontal and vertical platforms. Can anyone verify this? It would mean that any drop off of a platform would kill you in second chance. This could be the answer. If so, we just need a list of stair cases that are okay to descend...

I guess I can't GUARANTEE I wasn't killed by something else that I didn't notice but see my comment to mipadi's post for why I think this isn't the case.

Being hit by anything (bullets or grenades) makes a very distinct sound on my (loud) surround sound system. When I mysteriously die, I do not hear anything of the sort. Plus this has happened since the original release date before they made the person who downed you always get the kill and even after I killed them, it still gave them the kill for when I dyed mysteriously.

Thank you for your very detailed answer but it doesn't answer my question at all. I realize that you can killed by many things while in second chance but no where can I find out why you sometimes prematurely die mysteriously. Some people think it is stair cases or just dropping in altitude in general. I do know I can not crawl over a ledge and live while in second chance but I have been able to crawl down stairs and live sometimes.

comment What is the difference between a Steam game on CD and a download?
I can not say this for sure but I doubt what you say is true. If you purchase any Steam game which is compatible for Mac and PC, you can use it on both platforms. I would guess they would make PS3 just another platform.

comment How do you get your Steam games to run on Ubuntu through Wine or something similar?
I would recommend using a VM of Windows inside of Linux as opposed to using Wine. My dual booted PC runs CS: Source at over 300 FPS in Windows but I only get 10-30 FPS in Ubuntu while using Wine. I think the best option is of coarse to dual-boot and run the applications natively for best performance.

I need to try this out... but seriously... It is rare you see people questioning companies who rip themselves off. I usually just walk away casually while whistling and looking up to the sky. ;)

comment Determine XBOX CD Drive From Box
One good way of avoiding damaged DVD drives is to install your games to your hard drive. When I first got an XBOX and Oblivion, I went through 2 DVD drives and 3 game discs because of my extended play sessions. After installing the game to my hard drive, I have yet to experience any hardware malfunctions and all of my discs are in mint condition.

comment Will the extra zombie maps for Black Ops be made available in the PlayStation Store?
It is worth mentioning that I and a lot of others owners of the WaW zombie maps in Black Ops have made it very clear to Treyarch that we would like these maps made accessible to everyone. It doesn't make sense that only a handful of my friends have the maps and we can only play them with others who own them. This has made us not play them nearly as often as we would like to. From a business POV, it doesn't make sense for them NOT to sell them eventually too because it is free money just waiting to be made for them.

comment Do you HAVE to prestige?
You forgot to mention a prestige unlock which is the sole motivation to prestige for a lot of people (including myself): Golden Gun. At level 14th prestige, you unlock golden camo for your weapons. Who doesn't want to use a Golden AK?
