comment What addons are common in Garry's mod?
well I put the bit about common. I rather thought it was a better criteria since it is at least a fact whether or not something is used by a majority. what do you think?

comment Can you use single player mods on multiplayer?
I've heard of the planes mod being used on a smp server by forcing all players to download it, did they also have to do some heavy configuring or what's the deal?

comment Can you get into Mario RPG's Debug Room on the Wii's Emulator?
The video made it look like this was triggered by meeting a conditional. I was thinking Mario's name = "Red" and then just continue to Bowser's Keep. Many Squaresoft games had debug rooms that players could reach through normal gameplay but I don't have an SNES anymore to test that theory out >_<

A friend of mine in college spliced the wires to an old serial port cord directly o_o Not sure how he got it to pick up on the comp as a joystick

@Zoredache: it really isn't all that uncommon. the old microsoft gaming zone had been used to set up direct connections between players who hosted the games (such as age of empires) while the Zone software mostly just tracked IPs and account info. I know Final Fantasy XIV is now using torrent style p2p to reduce lag (and i think it is also the primary protocol for updating)

@Sandeep: Reading your other questions, you said that you only intend to host roughly 15 players. Unless that is going to grow, I think my answer is way too much work. Originally you had asked what could help gamers with similar issues worldwide who were stuck in a serverless bubble. So I was aiming for large scalability and low cost at the price of much effort. For 16 > people, I'd suggest getting a decent computer (4gb RAM + a few cores @ 2+GHz) and an internet connection with more upspeed than downspeed plus a static IP. Just set up a server and have fun unless you like the challenge.

I read somewhere that Call of Duty uses the same networking as Quake III. I would try to (a.) confirm this is true (b.) find someone who knows the engine well (c.) start making abstraction layers for the networking functionality

@first part: I don't know this game's server mechanics personally. In general you're going to have to find some way of deciphering the communication between application layer and transport layer or something similar. If you abstract both of these, the p2p network can appear the same as if it is a centralized network in communications. I appreciate those questions; hadn't thought that far into it :)

@Zoredache, second part: I don't think there's a perfect avoidance for cheating in many games, but would think along the lines of encryption and mixed processing. You have a task table (possibly centrally managed) wherein tasks are evenly distributed but not consolidated. Meaning a client wouldn't ever be processing an entire player's dataset and usually not their own.
