"I can't even imagine not having a mind entirely devoted to YALORT, since I have no room in my mind for imagining, because it's all taken up by worshipping YALORT!"

comment Is Final Fantasy X the only game in the franchise where you can swap characters in mid-battle?
@Jim I don't see that contradicting anything that I said. In case it is confusing, in the last sentence of my earlier comment, "take out" refers to moving into the active party, not out of it.

comment Can Magichange really be used for more than 2 turns
If the system is like it is with D3 and D4, it's the first one you say - the turn tickdown only counts when the wielder is out on the field when the next turn begins. If you are in the base panel, you aren't in the field, so the deduction doesn't happen. So by coming out, attacking, and then being thrown back into the panel, it allows for indefinite turns.

comment Can you pray too much?
Nope, they retooled things in the DS and iOS releases. Not as much as they did for FF3, I don't think, but significant enough, and it may be relevant regarding Pray (seeing as it was one of the skills that wasn't even in the US SNES release). Though I suppose a good answer could just give the answer to each version.

comment What does telling Whirlwind about Vessel Town affect?
From my own experience in having told him, there doesn't seem to be any real impact beyond the Medica II. Definitely doesn't get you any trouble, that's for sure.

comment How can I catch the FOE wandering around the big open area of B18F?
I recall this from the first edition of the game. However, as the terrain might be different this time around, I'm unsure if the same strategies will work. Let me rediscover what I actually did to catch the guy, though.

Just to head off folks who suggest things like bards to handle the TP issues, this is Story Mode.

comment Preserving a wielded corpse without tinning
@Zibbobz I could make long notes about corpses and statues (namely that you can't petrify corpses and statues don't retain the traits of their base creature while they are still statues), but the most relevant point is that a chicka/cockatrice is immune to petrification to begin with.

Ice box is basically the closest one can get, and it basically only serves as a "Keep it from rotting when I'm not actively wielding it". Which can be fine if you have a good amount of them to stash... but the main problem is that an ice box has a weight of 900. Which is huuuge.

comment Preserving a wielded corpse without tinning
I once wielded a knight corpse I found on the Valley of the Dead, who I named Sir Gallant the Totally Not Rotting, and even ascended with him, but that was because of a weird bug involving corpses on that floor. Alas, my biggest regret was not discovering his potential as a bludgeon until after I had already defeated Vlad. I don't know that one can get a more legitimately unrotting corpse though, short of carrying an ice box around with you.

comment How do the different difficulties differ?
Picnic difficulty better mean "You get harrassed by Venomflies at all times" because that's what it means to have a picnic in Etrian Odyssey.

comment Origin of the WASD key scheme
Alternatively, for keyboard games who want to stick to the left hand for directional input instead of the right hand (such as by being accustomed to console controllers). It all ultimately adds up to "Use the left hand for movement", no matter how you shake it.

comment Should I bother feeding my pets?
Bonus note: you can tell if your pet is hungry if you use a stethoscope on them. The health bar will be green if hungry, pink if full. A tamer's whip would also stop the whole rotten/fountain problem.

comment Do allies equip the best gear?
@Raven Yes, literally. They will swallow it, which destroys the item completely (and also mightily reduces their relationship with you, since you made them swallow such a sentimental item).

comment Why does Bahamut cost more to summon than Leviathan?
According to the mechanics FAQ I checked, Bahamut and Leviathan use the same damage formula. I didn't really dive any deeper past that, but if they use the same formula and Bahamut isn't listed with anything special past the higher attack power and lack of element, I don't think he pierces magic defense in this game. Just to address your not-sure part.

comment Why do pro players make these little sidesteps when fighting creeps?
I know that in DotA it was the case, but isn't this also a means to also prevent you from auto-attacking creeps? Certainly, there are ways to avoid auto-attacking without moving, but since the other benefits like dodginess and positioning are also prevalent, it's just better to use this as a means.
