May 12, 2013 at 16:42 | comment | added | Oblivious Sage | @Gwen As a level 80, when you get drops appropriate to your level, most of those drops will be upper 70s but some will be 80. For convenience, let's say 20% of drops will be level 80, and the rest will be upper 70s. When you're sidekicked, not all the drops are appropriate to your level; let's say that only 20% of them will be. That means that unsidekicked in level 80 zones, 20% of your drops will be level 80, while when you're sidekicked only 4% (20% of 20%) will be level 80. We're abusing comments, if you want to talk further please make a separate chat room and invite me to it.

May 12, 2013 at 14:48 | comment | added | Gwen | @ObliviousSage "...When you fight in areas where you're sidekicked to a lower level, enemies will mostly drop things of their level" doesn't say what you just said!
May 12, 2013 at 7:02 | comment | added | Oblivious Sage | @Gwen That's been my experience as a level 80 everywhere, that I get plenty of stuff from the upper 70s and sometimes a level 80 piece.
May 12, 2013 at 5:49 | comment | added | Gwen | @ObliviousSage but my point is that even when I'm in a 40s zone, the majority of gear I get is in the 70s (if not 80 blue/green/white), which is the opposite of your initial point

May 11, 2013 at 15:59 | comment | added | Oblivious Sage | @Gwen I didn't say that you'd get a lot of level 80 drops while sidekicked, merely that you could get them.
May 11, 2013 at 13:34 | comment | added | Gwen | I find that I still get mostly 70s when I'm sidekicked?
May 11, 2013 at 9:52 | comment | added | Amos M. Carpenter | Really? Haven't heard that - is "they" ANet? Either way, the point of my comment was that I'll be happy to upvote if those two minor corrections are made to an otherwise excellent answer :-)

May 11, 2013 at 3:43 | comment | added | Oblivious Sage | @aaamos True, but they've said they're planning on bumping legendaries up to being better than exotics stat-wise at some point.
May 11, 2013 at 2:47 | comment | added | Amos M. Carpenter | Actually, legendary items are not the same tier as ascended - the former have the same stats as level 80 exotics (but with fancier skins), the latter are actually higher than exotic (but you can't seen them since they only exist for trinkets. There's also a lower tier than basic: junk. See the wiki for more. Also, another place to get exotics is dungeons.
