How can I tell what my spells (signs) do?

Apparently I have a spellsign called "Aard", which does something when I press Q while it's active. Aard is hardly a descriptive word, however, and when I press C to bring up my character screen there's nothing there that has anything to do with it.

How can I read a description of this spellsign in-game?
