You should try and wait at a little bit so be patient. I am not sure how long you can wait,but wait it would work.Each mission will have a window of opportunity of 1-2 days, Abduction Missions have a 48 hour "window", Terror Site, and UFO Crashes / Landings have a 30 hour window.

I am not sure how long you can wait,but wait it would work.If you wait too long for the council missions (something like a couple days) they'll go away.However, in the case of slingshot missions, if you miss out on it you'll have the same mission pop up for you next month- at least.I think it's roughly 12-24 hours. If you only needed several hours you could take the risk, but 2 days is too long.
