I downloaded the demo to make sure the game will run on my PC before I buy it, and (not so) surprisingly, it does not. After starting up the demo, I see a spash screen, then the usual windows "xxx.exe closed unexpectedly" error.

I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 3.

The demo I downloaded is from here. Error log file

On a different computer, I get an error pointing to nvtt.dll instead of kernel32.dll, which seems to be an Nvidia related dll, which is not surprising, because it runs on an nvidia graphichs card.

Inside a version of the game I downloaded using my friend's steam account, I managed to get a different log file with this other machine, available here.

  • Is this Hungarian? :) Anyway, it's just a generic Windows this program has crashed message. It's usually caused by an unhandled exception in the program. Does the game have a log? If yes, did you send the log to the game support (if any)? – deutschZuid Feb 9 '13 at 21:33
  • @JamesJiao It is Hungarian, and I sent a tweet to the developer. – DJDavid98 Feb 9 '13 at 21:56
  • Isn't that demo like two years old? The game hasn't been called "Hazard" for a long time. AFAIK there is no demo for Antichamber. – BlueRaja - Danny Pflughoeft Feb 9 '13 at 22:02
  • @BlueRaja-DannyPflughoeft It still uses the same engine, and I did try one actual copy from my friend's Steam account which did not start either, with the exact same error popping up. – DJDavid98 Feb 9 '13 at 22:03
  • Translate the message or nobody would be able to help you. – Wok Feb 9 '13 at 22:32

Official Dev Response:

I don't think your graphics card is good enough to run it, looking at that log

Disclaimer: I've got the full game installed, so my ideas are based off problems encountered with that version of the game or general experience with these sorts of problems.

When the final game launched a lot of people had problems with the game crashing at startup. The issue was fixed after installing the latest PhysX drivers.

That said, I don't think the demo really needs PhysX. Still, in such cases it's usually a good idea to check if your drivers are up to date.

Finally, check the demo folder - there MIGHT be a Log folder inside. I'm saying might because I have the full game, not the demo, installed.

  • I installed every single exe that came with the game, and still nothing. – DJDavid98 Feb 10 '13 at 10:26
  • While you probably got your answer already from the Twitter, I'd like to point out that in the case of the full game - the PhysX installer that came with the game DIDN'T solve the issue - people had to download the latest one manually, thus my answer. – Shaamaan Feb 10 '13 at 14:03
