No visible leaves on Pokemon Go

Question

I don't see any leaves going up anywhere on Pokemon. Why did the leaves disappear?

I've restarted my phone but still I can't see any leaves.

The 'Leaves' mechanic has been removed from Pokemon Go

In 2017, the "leaves" and "footsteps" mechanics were removed entirely. Instead, when selecting a nearby Pokemon from the tracker, the map will add a pin to the closest Pokestop to the spawn location.

While nothing was confirmed by Niantic, the community speculates the change was for two different reasons: either to help reduce load on the servers, or to reduce trespassing - as players would be less likely to hop fences etc to get to a nearby spawn.

Sometimes leaves simply don't appear.

They're not guaranteed to be there, nor are they guaranteed to be in the same spot every time.

Most importantly, Pokemon aren't guaranteed to spawn where you see leaves.
