Every so often during lightning storms I see what looks like static shooting of of me for a few seconds and then I explode and die. What is happening and how can I prevent it?

A few seconds later you will end up with a screen filled with light:

Lightning explosion

  • @TimmyJim If you keep the metal equipment on long enough, there is a violent, explosion-like effect. It doesn't look like you get struck by lightning though; there's just a great big yellow, screen-shaking, boom. – zero298 Mar 6 '17 at 18:10

hmm.. what material is a good conductor of electricity? Perhaps we should apply some reasoning to this scenario ... half the fun of this game is figuring out stuff like this on your own. – Apologize and reinstate Monica Mar 7 '17 at 0:58
  • @zero298 that's more like an explosion! – Timmy Jim Mar 7 '17 at 13:58

The reason you are exploding is because metal weapons and armor attract electricity in a lightning storm. Wearing an item that has the electrical discharge effect (such as the weapons in the figure below) will cause charge to build up until you explode. Un-equip those items and you won't build up charge.

  • You can usually get away with one metal item equipped. – Jeff Mercado Mar 6 '17 at 22:26

@JoshB. I once tried to shoot bomb arrows near a volcano... bad bad idea – Clayn Mar 7 '17 at 7:19

@JeffMercado Not when going through the Hyrule Airport metal detector... The five-minute pat-down cut-scene is a real hassle! – Josh B. Mar 7 '17 at 14:34
