The new Minecraft launcher comes with smooth scrolling by default, and there is no accessibility options menu available to turn this "feature" off.

Because the way their smooth scroll feature is different from what I feel from interacting with the scroll wheel, it is giving me headaches if I move the scroll wheel to change the profiles, even before I play the game itself.

With smooth scroll, I mean that when you normally rotate the mouse wheel, the page moves down 1 page in 1 frame, and with the smooth scroll it takes multiple frames to do the same interaction, and this goes against the feeling you feel coming from the mouse

How can this "feature" be turned off?

System specifications:

Windows 10 Home

Launcher version:

Still using the old minecraft launcher, but Mojang has broken the ability to play snapshots, and this issue is a major blocker for me. Downloaded the version of minecraft today from the website.

  • 1. Do you mean it scrolls smoothly even with a mouse wheel? 2. Please give info about launcher version, system, mouse driver, hardware (especially the mouse/touchpad/trackball/whatever) and anything else that seems relevant. 3. There's an option in Windows called "disable unnecessary animations" that's worth a try, but without knowing your Windows version or if you even have Windows, I can't tell you where to find it. – Fabian Röling Apr 4 '18 at 18:14
  • I added the requested information to the post. Usually the windows settings don't apply to programs, I already have turned on some suggestions from that list in response to smooth scroll in other places in windows, but even microsoft programs don't respect those settings, like they don't care about the accessibility impacts their decisions bring – Ferrybig Apr 4 '18 at 18:26
  • I used that setting before to turn off the laggy-looking animations in Word and Excel, so they do have an effect. But I'm on Windows 7, I don't know if they behave differently on Windows 10. What is your problem with snapshots in the new launcher? Do you get a crash? Is there already a report? – Fabian Röling Apr 4 '18 at 19:20
  • My problem is with the Minecraft launcher, inside the game there is no smooth scroll. I don't have a problem with laggy smooth scroll or animations, but if there is a fast one, I need like 5 seconds to see everything clear again, and repeated interaction gives me headaches – Ferrybig Apr 4 '18 at 21:25
  • I mean why you don't use the new launcher. You mentioned that snapshots are "broken", in what way? I'm asking because it's better to solve a problem than to solve a problem with a workaround for another problem. – Fabian Röling Apr 5 '18 at 6:09
